Scandal at Hasker House!

Listed Building Consent granted today to replace the roof here at this rather attractive Grade II listed Georgian country house down near Maidenhead.

I am now a year into my MSc in the Conservation and Management of Heritage Property which is now bearing fruit, allowing us to undertake work such as this, with necessary supporting plans, advice, research and Heritage Statements all being undertaken in-house.

While researching the property I came across an extract from the 'British Army Despatch' of 17th May 1850, which provided a full court transcript of the divorce proceedings of a previous owner, Lieutenant-Colonel Cautley, who was seeking to end his marriage with Mrs Cautley after a member of his domestic staff entered the drawing room at Christmas 1844 to find Mrs Cautley and a Major Cooper in a position apparently “leaving little doubt that an act of criminality had been consummated”…. Scandal!
