Rural Design

Rural design begins with understanding how a site functions day to day, alongside creative judgement. Land use, access, working areas, nearby buildings and landscape setting are assessed, with design options developed to meet operational and policy requirements.

Wreyland’s rural design projects include farm buildings, rural housing, barn conversions and diversification schemes across Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds. Proposals are prepared in close discussion with owners and managers to reflect operational needs, budgets and long-term plans.

Careful attention is given to building form, proportion, materials and detail, ensuring schemes are both policy-compliant and practical. Alternative layouts and massing approaches can be explored at concept stage, allowing different visual and functional solutions to be tested before a preferred option is selected.

The objective is to deliver well-considered rural buildings that support farm and estate operations and sit comfortably within their countryside setting.
